UC San Diego Health is a worldwide leader in the diagnosis, treatment and research of pulmonary vascular disease. Our clinicians provide the most advanced medical and surgical therapies for all forms of pulmonary disease. The first to offer pulmonary rehabilitation in San Diego in 1968, UC San Diego Health is a true global leader in the management of chronic respiratory conditions.

UC San Diego Health physicians pioneered the development of the pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) procedure for treating chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, a chronic condition which left untreated is deadly. Our surgical teams perform more of these technically challenging procedures than any other hospital in the world and have the lowest mortality rate. The skills and evidenced-based outcomes required to establish this international program set the bar for all UC San Diego Health surgical programs.

Our DestinationCare pulmonary vascular disease program includes globally recognized experts in pulmonary and cardiovascular care and emphasizes leading-edge treatments in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH).
